On behalf of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), SKDKnickerbocker commissioned EpandMedia to help their larger media campaign by producing a number of radio ads. The ads are playing this March and April in select states in support of comprehensive background checks for gun purchases. Len Epand creative directed and Mike Hansen engineered. SKDK’s Bill Knapp, Julie Norton, Jessica McCreight, and Sally Francis oversaw the ad campaign creative.
One series, called “Justin-Responsible,” features a gun owner and second amendment advocate speaking about the importance of making sure that criminals and the dangerously mentally ill are prevented from getting guns. The ad was customized for each of 10 states and their US Senators. They urge that these Republican and Democrat senators (either undecided or opposed) change their minds and vote for comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases.
One other radio ad, “Flake-Voted Against,” asks Arizonans to call their Senator Flake to get him on the side of comprehensive background checks. And others — such as “Majorities,” “Everyone” and “Responsible-84” targeting general, rural and urban markets of Arkansas — urge Arkansans to call their Senator Pryor and convince him to join them in supporting comprehensive background check legislation.
Recent polls have shown overwhelming support for background checks. The MAIG media campaign intends for the United State Senate to put the issue up for a simple up or down vote and pass meaningful legislation on comprehensive background checks.
